Read again Mark 1: 1-13 

 

1. What else can we find out about John Mark?

2. what does Mark’s account miss out that both Matthew and Luke include? Why do you think this was?

3. In what ways can you think that the world we live in is like the wilderness described by Mark?

4. What can we find out about John the Baptist?

5. Compare John’s approach to the one shown by the Israelites in the wilderness. (See Exodus 15:24, Exodus 16:2-3)

6. In what ways do today’s messengers of Jesus share the characteristics of John the Baptist?

7. What was the messenger’s mission?

8. What do you understand about the word repentance?

9. Read again verses 7 & 8of Mark 1 and discuss how like John our message can be. (Think of the four parts of his message)

10. Share about your baptism as a moment of change for you

11. What was significant about the baptism of Jesus?

12. How did Jesus triumph over temptation and can we share that same victory?
