The Basildon Bar n Bus project

Serving as mobile youth centres, the Bar n Bus enables the local Churches to meet the needs of young people where they are.

This  customised bus currently goes out on a weekly basis during the evening to St Martin's Square in Basildon. The volunteers on the bus gives the young people a listening ear, support and a safe environment to socialise.

Facilities on the buses include a free coffee bar serving hot chocolate, tea and coffee, play station or Xbox, TV's, videos, prayer room and comfy places to relax and chill out

Full training is offered to every volunteer and they are equipped to deal with most problems and difficult questions. Their role is to meet, befriend and build a positive relationship with young people. Volunteers are expected to be committed members of local Christian Churches and will be required to establish a prayer partner to support them in this work.

This  project has been running for over 12 years and it is very successful.  It has not only helped the young people who come onto the bus, but it has helped the local community by reducing the local crime rate amongst young people.
